LENI

LENI is a center of excellence in teaching and research related to thermodynamics and to sustainable engineering of energy systems (thermal or electrochemical) and industrial processes.

In the school of Mechanical engineering, LENI, headed by Prof. Daniel Favrat , is a member of the Institute of Energy Sciences (ISE) in the faculty of "Sciences et Techniques de l'ingénieur" (STI) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology - Lausanne (EPFL).

LENI develops thermodynamically based generic methodologies for the integration and optimization of complex energy systems and networks increasingly accounting for LCA factors. LENI leads theoretical and experimental studies of energy conversion systems and equipment with a growing emphasis on decentralized cogeneration (including fuel cells), renewables (solar, biomass) and heat pumps.

LENI is active in research and teaching in three main sectors :

LENI is an active partner in the Alliance for Global Sustainability between MIT, EPFL and the University of Tokyo.
